As an Administrative Consultant, my real role is to graciously and diplomatically guide you towards 'giving away' work. I listen closely, analyze and tell you where I feel the best opportunities for this 'release' of work would lie.
I've also found that client/customer care is a much sought after (and much needed) quality in an Administrative Consultant. 'Customer acknowledgment' is traditionally the first thing to go when clients are severely overloaded--long time clients of the client can easily fall through the cracks, ultimately impacting the business at hand. An Administrative Consultant can help build (and maintain) the necessary bridges to keep client communication and awareness on track. In the end, much of what we do as Virtual Assistants is work to help the client get back to some of the things given up in the struggle to maintain a business.
Another part of my practice that's not easily defined, but is one of the reasons my clients are with me for a long time, is my ability to run interference for them in a variety of situations. For example, if you have given up on dealing with (pick one) your long distance service provider, a key supplier, your bank, etc., this is where I get involved in order to obtain resolution.
